Microwave sample preparation is the technology of choice for trace and ultra-trace metals
analysis. High temperature, closed vessel, acid digestion prepares samples in less time than traditional methods (minutes rather than hours), uses less acid, and retains even volatile elements. With the Milestone
series of microwave digestion systems, it is possible to easily digest even the toughest organic or inorganic sample matrix, safely processing more samples in less time with superior results. The unique design and
specialised accessories give the user a completely integrated system for a broad range of applications. Although most of the systems can be used for many different applications, some modules have been specifically
designed for specific uses such as Open Vessel Digestion, and the High Pressure High Temperature High Throughput UltraCLAVE

Highest safety through unique pressure responsive door
Milestone is committed to making the world's safest laboratory microwave systems and has further improved the safety of the EthosEZ system, featuring a door opening and selfresealing
mechanism. In case of sudden over-pressurisation of the cavity, the door opens slightly for immediate and safe release of the overpressure using spring-loaded steel bars. Microwave power is
instantaneously cut off. Immediately afterward, the door is pulled back by the springs, resealing the cavity. This is the same principle of selfresealing employed in the Milestone pressure vessels!

Choice of pulsed or unpulsed microwave emission
The ETHOS 1 is the only microwave system allowing the user to select microwave emission in a pulsed or unpulsed mode, to safely control even the most exothermic reactions
|
|
 |
|
Convenient, user-centric design The
EthosEZ door includes a shock resistant double-glass window, for easy viewing of the pressure vessels. The door opens downward and it can be used by the user as a working platform to facilitate the loading of the
vessels into the microwave cavity.
Fast vessels air cooling for higher throughput The EthosEZ is equipped with a heavy duty air flow system, placed above
the microwave cavity. The air flow rapidly cools the external surfaces of the vessels. An acid resistant flexible hose connects the exhaust fan to a fume hood ensuring a safe working environment. Alternatively, the
Milestone vessels can be cooled in a water bath, further reducing the total cooling time to less than 10 minutes
All stainless-steel construction The
chassis of the EthosEZ is made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel, not molded plastic. The cavity and the door are plasma-coated with PTFE to protect the unit. Milestone's warranty covers the cavity coating
against corrosion for 5 years!
Homogeneous microwave distribution A pyramid-shaped rotating diffuser evenly distributes the microwaves in the cavity. This
unique design ensures optimal microwave distribution, preventing localized hot and cold spots

Advanced User Interface
The EthosEZ is operated via a compact terminal with bright, full-color, touch-screen display. The terminal runs Milestone's unique EasyCONTROL software, to provide simple, user-friendly control of the
microwave sample preparation process.
EasyCONTROL software Milestone's new EasyCONTROL software is the most advanced and powerful operating
system in the field of microwave sample preparation. Automatic, real-time monitoring and feedback-based control of multiple parameters offering unsurpassed process control. Simply recall a factory stored
program or create a new one. Press 'Start', and the system will follow the drawn temperature or pressure profile, utilising a sophisticated PID algorithm

StartMOD open vessel digestion system
|
 |
|
The Start MOD is primarily deigned for simultaneous open- vessel acid digestion of up to 8 samples, it can
additionally be used as a closed-vessel digestion system by adding any Milestone closed-vessel rotor, giving users the greatest flexibility within a single sample preparation platform. The built-in software
allows the use of both open- and closed-vessel procedures

UltraCLAVE high temperature, high pressure, high throughput system
|
 |
|
The UltraCLAVE can be used for semi-automated batch processing of samples and
high-throughput or large-volume applications. Loading, unloading and processing of samples is performed automatically under computer control. The UltraCLAVE allows processing of multiple samples—rotors with as
many as 50 positions are available—or a single large reaction mixture. Reactions can be scaled from microliters to 3 litres, under identical conditions using the same reaction system. Continuous, unpulsed
delivery of microwave power provides the most precise possible control over reaction conditions, from millisecond to millisecond

|
The high pressure steel reactor has a volume of 4.2 litres and an effective
working volume of 3.5 litres with the PTFE liner installed. Microwave energy from the system's magnetron is introduced into the reactor through a special microwave-transparent port. Since the reactor and
cavity are the same, the internal geometry is optimised for direct microwave coupling to materials in the reactor, this design ensures maximum sample heating efficiency. The interior of the UltraCLAVE
stainless steel reactor is protected by a special surface treatment for acid and chemical resistance

|
|
 |
 |
|
The EasyCLAVE software includes an Autorun mode in which a complete procedure
is automatically run. The user is only required to set the Start and Stop parameters, place the sample container/rack in the UltraCLAVE and press Autorun. The unit will automatically close, reach the
preset load pressure, carry out the temperature/pressure program, stop the program and release pressure. After pressure release the system will automatically open. An email can be sent to a specific
email address advising the procedure is completed. Full documentation is available as well as a solvent library for increased safety of operation
