Scale-up normal pressure reactions The NP (Normal Pressure) reactor allows chemists to perform synthetic organic
reactions in a reflux mode inside the MicroSYNTH cavity. Ordinary laboratory glassware can be used, so any reactions currently performed with a hot plate, heating mantle, or steam bath can be immediately transferred
to the microwave. Reflux in a microwave field allows the chemist to investigate the effects of microwaves on reaction rates and mechanisms. Because the reaction temperature is not elevated (as it would be in a
closed-vessel format), any enhancement in reaction rate can be attributed to the effects of the microwave energy itself. Reflux glassware is available in a range of volumes from 50ml up to 4L, for small to larger
scale reactions. Reflux reactions will enjoy all the benefits of the MicroSYNTH labstation, including temperature monitoring and control, homogeneous heating, variable speed magnetic stirring, advanced operator
safety features, and even the ability to induce photochemical reactions with an electrodeless plasma lamp
