Milestone microwave rotors and sensors

Milestone offers a wide variety of vessels for all applications from digestion, synthesis, extraction, evaporation, and protein hydrolysis The vessel technology is continuously enhanced to provide analysts with the latest tools for their application

Milestone 'vent-and-reseal' vessels are the foundation of it's microwave digestion technology. This patented technology provides analysts with unsurpassed performance capabilities. While other devices use membranes or burst disks that render a vessel useless after venting, the Milestone system releases only the excess pressure from the vessels. This vessel technology is the perfect complement to the ETHOS 1 pressure-responsive door, resulting in the safest microwave system available today

MDR Technology
The 'dome-shaped' spring is temporarily flattened in case of overpressure (1), allowing the cap to lift-up (2) slightly and release the pressure. Once the pressure has been released, the cap closes again (3), and the microwave program can continue

Comparison of burst disk venting and Milestone 'vent and reseal' venting technology

Burst disk venting
When a specific pressure is achieved, the disk bursts, and the pressure dramatically drops to zero. Sample is lost, and the program must be manually stopped

mdr_graph1

Milestone unique vent-and-reseal venting
Only the excess pressure is released from the vessel, and the digestion process can be completed in full safety

Rotors with vent and reseal technology

sk12

SK-12: Medium Pressure Rotor
General purpose rotor suitable for most samples. The high-strength rotor body holds multiple digestion vessels made of highpurity TFM. Allows for the complete digestion of water, sludge, municipal waste, biological materials, metals and alloys

sk10

SK-10: High Pressure Rotor
High pressure rotor suitable for all samples, including difficult organic and inorganic refractory materials. Ensures complete digestion of larger amounts of highly reactive organics, such as food/feed, oils, plastics, pharmaceuticals

pro16
rotormultiprep

PRO-16/PRO-24: Medium Pressure High Throughput Rotors
High throughput rotors suitable for easy organic samples or environmental applications, according to the U.S. EPA method 3051A. Easy handling and rapid cooling capabilities

nova10

Nova-10: High Temperature Rotor
High temperature rotor able to withstand extremely high temperatures for long lasting complete digestion of the most challenging samples. Suitable for very difficult inorganic materials such as silicon carbide, metal oxides, geological, and refractory materials

Multiprep 41: High Throughput Rotor
The Milestone Multiprep-41 is a new high throughput rotor, suitable for the microwave acid digestion of any sample requiring moderate temperature and pressure conditions - typically 200°C and 20 bar - for a full recovery of the analytes of interest. The most typical applications of the Multiprep-41 include the sample preparation of environmental samples (soil, sludge, waste water - according to the US EPA methods 3015a, 3051a and 3052-, filters), of biological samples (tissues, food, feed, plants, agriculture products), and many others, such as paint chips and mineral leaches

q20

Q-20 Quartz Rotor
The new Milestone Q-20 Quartz rotor truly opens a new era in microwave digestion, and is a fundamental addition to the outstanding capabilities of the Ethos 1 and the Start D units. The Q-20 offers elevated performance specifically for ultra-trace analysis, unsurpassed ease of use, and full control of all digestion parameters in all vessels. It allows for the complete digestion of a variety or organic samples, such as food and feed, plants, polymers, pharmaceuticals, clinical materials, biologicals, and oils

Other optional rotors

startMOD_mod8

Open vessel digestion
The MOD-8 rotor allows for the simultaneous open-vessel digestion of up to eight samples, in 250 ml glass or quartz vessels. The entire rotor is composed of ultra-pure, chemically inert PTFE and PP polymers, to minimize contamination. The individual vessels are isolated, each with its own separately connected vacuum exhaust line, so there is no risk of cross contamination. Furthermore, each vessel is also individually connected to the automated dosing system, to ensure precise control over the distribution of acid to each sample

mmr_main

Evaporation and drying
The MMR modular microwave rotor is used for heating materials in a microwave field under controlled vacuum conditions. When connected to an external vacuum supply (VAC-100 or VAC-2000 modules), and depending on the specific configuration, the MMR rotor can be used for vacuum assisted sarnple drying, acid removal, volume reduction, and solvent evaporation. The MMR Rotor is a specially engineered fixture for accommodating either 8 or 12 microwave vessels. Each vessel is isolated from the others, so there is no cross contamination. Samples are processed in a clean, inert environment

Advanced Reaction Sensors
The Milestone microwave systems can be used with a variety of advanced reaction sensors, including contact-less temperature and pressure control in all vessels, and direct temperature and pressure control in a single reference vessel

temperature_control

Direct temperature control
The ATC Automatic Temperature Control system allows for direct continuous monitoring and control of a reference vessel up to 300°C. The temperature sensor is housed in a thermowell and protected from chemical attack by a multiple layer of PTFE and inert material, ensuring trouble-free operation

infrared_control

Contact-less temperature control in all vessels
The ETHOS 1 features a focused, high sensitivity infrared sensor for contact-less temperature monitor and control of all vessels, with individual temperature profiles for each vessel

pressure_control

Direct pressure control
The APC Automatic Pressure Control system allows for direct monitoring and control of a reference vessel up to 100 bar. Pressure monitoring and control are ideal for highly reactive organic samples or 'unknowns', and for method development, to maintain pressure limits within the vessel's specifications

contactless_control

Contact-less pressure control in all vessels
The QP sensor monitors and effectively controls all vessels simultaneously, preventing any leakage or vapour diffusion. In combination with proprietary pressure vessel technology and the EasyCONTROL software, this sensor ensures complete and safe digestions without any loss of volatile compounds
